In the summer of 2006 I spent a weekend at Woodsmoke a wilderness skills training school in the Lake District. This was my second time with Woodsmoke and this time I decided I wanted to learn how to make a traditional stone age flatbow!

Over the course of the weekend the students all fashioned ourselves a flatbow from an Ash stave using axes and knives. We were all guided through this under the expert guidance of Woodsmoke's guest instructor Werner Pfeifer.

The photos below show the bow I made. I would like to make some more but would regard myself as a beginner when it comes to making these. (I can see a few "prototypes" being given as gifts to friends!)

Apologies for the poor photos of the bow but it is difficult to photograph such a long item. Hopefully I'll get some photos of the bow being used on the site soon.
